Exultate Choral Scholars (Paid Positions)

Auditioning for an Exultate Choral Scholar Position

Exultate – 2016-17 Concert Season – Our 21st Year

(2017-18 information coming soon)

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for a Choral Scholar Position with Exultate. (Auditions for the ensemble took place in May, 2016. (There are still positions open for singers as of September 14, 2016.)  The 2016-17 season marks our 21st year of making music! We are excited about that and invite you to audition for what promises to be a stellar year!)

The choir and orchestra are open to any fine musician interested in committing time and energies to accomplishing high standards and a high level of music making. There are openings in all sections of the choir for the 2016-2017 season and from time to time openings in the orchestra.

Exultate is a fine orchestra and choir dedicated to performing at the highest level of artistry. Our concerts are filled with music from all periods of music history and our ultimate goal is to move the listener’s soul. Through intense rehearsals we prepare music and then present performances in acoustical spaces which enhance the listener’s experience and enable that music to move from voice to ears to heart and become music in its purest form – the language of emotions. What a privilege! We also have a great deal of fun doing so. Both the orchestra and choir are made up of musicians from all walks of life, many communities within the Twin Cities and a broad range of ages. We enjoy singing and playing together in rehearsals, concerts and off stage at gatherings, parties and other events.

We also have several recording sessions each season and release new albums often.  We have more than 20 CDs in our library of recordings sold all over the world through our own web site, iTunes, Amazon.com and a host of other digital outlets.

Choral Scholar Positions Available – 2016-17 Season

(2017-18 information coming soon)

In addition to our fine volunteer singers and paid section leaders, there are additional positions open to any auditioning singer. These positions are Choral Scholar Positions.  They are paid choral positions in the Exultate Chamber Choir.  Being a Choral Scholar is no more valued or important than any other position in the choir but with membership as a Choral Scholar, more is expected.  Here is how it works.

A singer auditioning for membership in Exultate who wants to be considered for a Choral Scholar position must complete a more rigorous audition process.  If chosen to be a member of this group, the singer would have the added responsibility of knowing all music in advance, being a leader in his/her section and being ready at any time to be called upon to demonstrate musical examples and “how it ‘should’ sound.” Besides being musically ready for each rehearsal there may also be situations where you will be asked to arrive early to rehearsal or stay after (but that would be very rare and only for a short time) to discuss upcoming repertoire, short term goals of the Choral Scholars or to agree on pedagogical tools and methods.  If you are interested in being considered for a Choral Scholar position the following procedures apply.

Updated on September 14, 2016: There are still a few openings for the 2016-17 Season –  Fill out the application form below if you are interested in auditioning. We will contact you to set up an audition time. If you have questions, please contact the Artistic Director, Dr. Thomas D. Rossin by email at: trossin@comcast.net.

1. Apply using the application at the bottom of this page.
2. An audition will be arranged as soon as possible.  At the audition you must sing a solo piece of your choosing.  It must be from the cantata, oratorio or classical solo literature.  You will need to provide your own accompanist. (In the future we hope to have an accompanist provided.)
3. The audition will consist of, in addition to the prepared solo, more in depth sight reading, ear training and voice range and agility exercises.
4. Upon completion of the audition you will be notified, when the decision is determined, if you are to be a Choral Scholar for this season.  The position is for one season but individuals may apply for subsequent seasons if funding is available. If not chosen for a Choral Scholar position you might still be invited to sing in the choir.
5. Besides being musically ready for each rehearsal there may also be situations where you will be asked to arrive early to rehearsal or stay after (but that would be very rare and only for a short time) to discuss upcoming repertoire, short term goals of the Choral Scholars or to agree on pedagogical tools and methods.
6. Contracts and pay for the Choral Scholars will be discussed with those who are chosen to be in that group of singers.
